Montana-Dakota Utilities, Company is the utility division of MDU
Resources Group, Inc., a multidimensional natural resources company. Montana-Dakota
distributes natural gas and propane and operates electric power generation,
transmission and distribution facilities.
NATURAL GAS
Montana-Dakota provides reliable natural gas service to the Dickinson area for
both small and large customers. Transportation gas service is available for
large customers who are served on an interruptible basis. Most of Montana-Dakotas
natural gas purchases and deliveries are made through interconnects with Williston
Basin Interstate Pipeline Co., a natural gas production and transmission company
operating in and around the four state territory served by Montana-Dakota.
ELECTRICITY
Montana-Dakota provides dependable single-phase and three-phase electricity
service to Dickinson. To increase reliability and control costs, Montana-Dakota
is a member of MAPP (Mid-Continent Area Power Pool), one of several regional
interconnected grids of power suppliers in the United States. Montana-Dakota
has a special Economic Development rate available for large electric users who
meet certain criteria. An interruptible electric rate for large customers is
also available.

West Plains Electric Cooperative, Inc., a member owned electric distribution cooperative, incorporated in 1945. West Plains serves portions of the city of Dickinson and over 3500 sq. miles in the three counties surrounding Dickinson.
West Plains has a diverse membership. While the membership consists primarily of farm and residential customers, approximately 70% of total energy sales are to commercial/industrial accounts, including oilfield, manufacturing, processing and small commercial. Current plant includes three distribution substations to serve Dickinson with cooperative owned transmission facilities and distribution tie lines. Accounts in Dickinson are served exclusively with underground distribution line.
West Plains purchases power through Upper Missouri Generation & Transmission Cooperative. Ten electric distribution cooperatives make up the G&T with wholesale power purchased from Western Area Power Administration and Basin Electric Power Cooperative.
West Plains is committed to serving the Dickinson area and is expanding services each year. West Plains has several programs to offer its members; an electric heat rate of three cents per kWh, size and layout electric heating systems for new and existing homes, electric heat financing, zero interest economic development loans, economic development energy rates. We also offer cooperative resources of over 1,000 electric cooperatives nationwide as Your Touchstone Energy Partner.
